A Pipedrive Trial Without Billing Details Is Deleted Shortly After

Add a card and the trial quietly becomes a paid account. Do not, and the data goes - and Pipedrive does not say how long you have.

Software trials are usually low-stakes. You try something, you do not like it, you walk away and nothing of consequence happens.

CRM trials are not like that, because of what people do during them. Evaluating a CRM properly means importing your real contacts, setting up your actual pipeline, and often working live deals through it for a fortnight. By day ten a "trial" can be where your sales team is genuinely operating.

Which makes both of Pipedrive's documented outcomes worth understanding in advance.

Outcome one: you added a card

The account converts to a paying account when the trial ends, and you are invoiced when the paid billing cycle starts. Pipedrive is explicit that "You will not lose access to the valuable data in your account".

Good, if that was the plan. Less good if the card went in on day three because a feature was gated behind it, or because the signup flow asked for it and it seemed easier than arguing.

Adding billing details to a Pipedrive trial is the decision to buy. There is no separate confirmation step at the end where someone asks whether you would like to continue — the conversion is the default behaviour once a card exists.

That is a reasonable design and it is worth knowing which side of it you are on before the fourteenth day rather than after the invoice.

Outcome two: you did not

"All access to the company Pipedrive account will be restricted once the trial ends."

And then the sentence that matters:

"The trial account and existing data will be deleted shortly after the trial is expired."

Shortly. Not thirty days, not sixty, not a defined grace period. The one word in the whole policy that you would want to be a number is not one.

We have listed that below as something the documentation does not establish, and the practical consequence is unavoidable: if your trial is ending and you have not decided, your data is on a clock you cannot read. Export before the last day, not during the week after.

The asymmetry worth noticing

Here is the genuinely odd part, and it rewards the person who acts deliberately.

If you let a trial expire, the data is deleted "shortly after".

If you close the trial account yourself, Pipedrive states "your data will be retrievable for 60 days".

Two months versus an unspecified short period — and the better outcome comes from doing more work, not less. Walking away quietly is the option that gives you the least protection.

So if you have evaluated Pipedrive and decided against it, the better move is to close the trial deliberately rather than to stop logging in. It costs five minutes and converts an unknown deadline into a documented sixty days.

What to take out of a trial

People under-export from trials because it feels like throwaway data. Two weeks of a sales team using a system properly is not throwaway.

  • Any contacts you imported, especially if you cleaned or deduplicated them during setup. That cleanup is work you will otherwise repeat.
  • Deals created during the trial, with their stages and values.
  • Notes and activity logged in the fortnight. This is real sales history that exists nowhere else.
  • Your pipeline configuration, by screenshot. Even if you choose another CRM, the stage definitions you argued your way to are reusable.

The wider pattern

Pipedrive is not unusual here, and that is rather the point. Across this site we have now documented several products where a trial or a lapse converts into a charge or a deletion based on a default rather than a decision — monday.com automatically upgrading an over-seat account after five days, Harvest restricting features when a trial ends, Asana prompting a downgrade.

Those are collected in software trials that charge you automatically, which is worth ten minutes before you start any evaluation with a card in hand.

Questions people ask

What happens when a Pipedrive trial ends?

It depends entirely on whether billing details were added. With them, the account converts to a paying account and you keep access - Pipedrive states you will not lose access to the data. Without them, all access to the account is restricted once the trial ends.

Does Pipedrive delete trial data?

Yes, if no billing details were added. The documentation says the trial account and existing data will be deleted shortly after the trial expires. It does not define "shortly", which is the problem - there is no number to plan against.

Will Pipedrive charge me automatically after the trial?

If you added billing details during the trial, the account converts to a paying account and you are invoiced when the paid billing cycle starts. That is the documented behaviour, so adding a card to extend a trial or unlock a feature is a decision to start paying, not a formality.

Can I get a restricted trial account back?

Restrictions are lifted when someone with billing permissions signs in and adds payment details. You can also reopen before permanent deletion by importing your data back - which again means your own export is the thing doing the restoring.

How long is data kept if I close a trial account myself?

Pipedrive states that if you close a trial account, your data will be retrievable for 60 days. That is notably more generous and more specific than the "shortly" that applies to a trial you simply let expire - closing deliberately gives you a clearer window than walking away.
