This policy explains what happens to information when you visit SoftwaresPick at https://softwarespick.com. It is written to be read, not to be survived. Where a section says we do not do something, that is a description of how the site is actually built, not a promise about intent.

If anything here is unclear, email partners@softwarespick.com and we will explain it in plain terms.

The short version

  • We do not ask you to create an account, and there is nothing to log in to.
  • There are no forms on this site that collect your details. Contact is by email.
  • We do not sell, rent or share personal information with data brokers.
  • We do not build advertising profiles ourselves.
  • Analytics and advertising, when enabled, are provided by third parties who set their own cookies and have their own policies — those are named below.
  • A small amount of information is stored in your own browser (your theme and language choice). It never reaches us.

Who is responsible for your data

SoftwaresPick is the data controller for the limited processing described here. Contact: partners@softwarespick.com.

What we collect

Information you give us

The only way to send us information is to email us. When you do, we hold your message and your email address for as long as it takes to deal with it, plus a reasonable period afterwards in case you follow up. We do not add correspondents to a mailing list, and we do not use your address for anything other than replying to you.

Information collected automatically

Server logs. Like every web server, the hosting that serves this site records requests: IP address, the page requested, the time, the referring page, and your browser's user-agent string. These logs exist to keep the site running and secure — to diagnose errors, identify abuse and understand load. They are not used to build a profile of you, and they are retained only as long as our hosting provider's standard retention period.

Analytics. Where site analytics are enabled, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and how people arrive. We configure it for aggregate reporting: we look at page-level numbers, not individuals. Google acts as a processor for this data and may also process it under its own terms — see Google's privacy policy.

If no analytics ID is configured on this installation, no analytics scripts are loaded at all, and you can confirm that by viewing the page source.

Advertising. Where advertising is enabled, ads are served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads where you have consented to them. You can control this at Google's ad settings and read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Affiliate links. Some outbound links to software vendors are affiliate links. When you follow one, the destination service records that the visit came from us, typically with a cookie, so that a resulting sign-up can be attributed. We receive only aggregate reporting from those programmes — a count of referrals and any commission earned. We do not receive your name, email address or account details. Our advertiser disclosure explains the commercial side of this in full.

Translation. If you switch the site into another language, Google Translate is used to translate the page in your browser. That request goes to Google and is subject to Google's privacy policy. Nothing loads unless you choose a language, or your browser's language settings trigger the automatic offer described in the cookie policy.

What we do not collect

We do not collect payment details, because nothing is sold here. We do not use fingerprinting, session recording, heat maps or scroll tracking. We do not run newsletter tracking pixels. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, and this site is not directed at them.

Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on:

  • Legitimate interests for server logs and aggregate analytics — keeping the site available, secure and useful. We have assessed this as a low-impact processing activity that a visitor would reasonably expect.
  • Legitimate interests for replying to correspondence you initiate.
  • Consent for any non-essential cookies, including personalised advertising, where consent is required in your jurisdiction.

How long we keep things

  • Email correspondence: as long as needed to resolve it, then periodically cleared.
  • Server logs: our host's standard retention, typically a matter of weeks.
  • Analytics: the retention period configured in Google Analytics, which we set to the shortest option that still allows year-on-year comparison.

Who we share with

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers. Data is processed by the third parties that make the site work:

ServicePurposeApplies when
Web hosting providerServing the site, server logsAlways
Google AnalyticsAggregate audience measurementWhen an analytics ID is configured
Google AdSenseAdvertising delivery and measurementWhen advertising is enabled
Google TranslateOn-page translationOnly when you choose another language
Affiliate networksReferral attributionOnly when you click an affiliate link

We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect the site against fraud or abuse.

International transfers

Some of the services above are operated by companies based in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK or EEA, those transfers rely on the transfer mechanisms the provider maintains, such as standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights: to access the personal data we hold about you; to have it corrected; to have it deleted; to restrict or object to processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time.

Under the CCPA and similar US state laws, you have the right to know what is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell personal information as those laws define it.

To exercise any right, email partners@softwarespick.com. We will respond within the timeframe the applicable law requires — one month under GDPR and UK GDPR — and we will not charge you or treat you differently for asking.

If you are in the UK you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. In the EEA, you may complain to your national supervisory authority.

Cookies

Cookies and browser storage are covered in detail in our cookie policy, including how to refuse or remove them.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS in production. It has no user accounts, no login, no database of personal information and no user-uploaded files, which removes most of the ways a publication of this kind leaks data. Nothing is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes materially, we update the date at the top of the page and describe the change here. Continuing to use the site after a change means the current version applies to your visit.
